Getting Organized In The Kitchen

I’ve been needing to do something about how I store my pots and pans for a long time.  Stacking them on top of each other just adds unnecessary wear and tear on them.  Unfortunately it’s a little late for this set of cookware but in the continued search for my “last” set of cookware I decided now was the time to get organized.

I have to say that the Z Man did an amazing job installing my pot rack and it makes this little section of the kitchen look so warm and cozy, it kind of feels like someone lives here that knows how to cook 😉   Honestly, every time I look at it the little want to be chef comes out in me.

The pictures don’t do it justice, mainly because I stink at taking pictures.

The best thing about it is that I don’t have to clang and bang around in the cabinet to find the pot I need.  It’s right there at my fingertips thanks to the Z Man.  Having an organized kitchen always make cooking more pleasurable.

Now, I just need to find the stainless steel “chef” pans I want, uh, I mean need 😉

Turn Your Waste Into Want

I used to do a post on Wednesday’s called Wednesday Waste.  But honestly I have gotten so particular about waste, I mean to the point where the Z Man gives me the side eye and just grins, and I know he is thinking “what is she doing now”.  It got to the point where I really didn’t have much to talk about in the waste posts, or so I thought.

Kitchen waste in the past year has minimized because of our chickens.  They get all of my vegetable scraps, well the ones that don’t get tossed into the freezer for soups.

Anything that doesn’t go to the chickens or freezer and isn’t meat goes into the compost pile.

Anything that is safely burnable goes into the kindling box.

However, as with most things, there is always room for improvement.  I know I’m doing better than I was a year ago, but honestly, I’m just scratching the surface compared to some.  Take a look at the picture below.  This is taken by another Non Consumer Advocate follower.  She turns her chicken feed bags into reusable tote bags.  This is genius!  I fell in love with this idea as soon as I saw it and immediately contacted Dawn and asked if I could share it.  She takes 50lb feed bags and turns them into something reusable instead of them ending up in the landfill.  I love it!

This idea gives full credit to thinking outside the box and that there is always room for improvement.  The point of my Wednesday Waste post was to cut back on waste, which was fine, but now my perspective has been changed, thanks to Dawn.

How can I turn my waste into a want?  That needs to be asked along with how can I keep this out of the trash.  After all, they say one mans trash is another mans treasure.

Thank you Dawn for allowing me to share your picture, and giving me a new perspective on waste.

Now, I’m off to feed the chickens and make some bags.

Till Next Time,

Week Two, Done!

It’s been two full weeks of taking my break from wine.  So far, this is what I’ve experienced.

The first week:

  1. I had a dull headache for the first 3 or 4 days.
  2. I drank just as many grape juice spritzers each evening as I did glasses of wine.
  3. Even my, oh let’s call it “bathroom time” was minimal at best and very uncomfortable for about a week.
  4. I had bad dreams almost every night.
  5. And, every day around 4:00 in the afternoon I would become a bit sad.

The second week:

  1. I noticed two beautiful sunrises, and thought to myself, “hey I noticed those and smiled”
  2. I cut back on the grape juice spritzers.
  3. “Bathroom time” became a bit more regular, thank GOD!
  4. Sleep got a little easier, with the help of some chamomile tea
  5. The 4:00 hour became a little easier
  6. The weekends felt a little longer, but if I’m being honest perhaps a bit boring too.
  7. My week at work was more pleasant in some weird way.
  8. I’m smoking less (go figure!)  of course that could be because it’s cold as crap and I don’t want to go outside!

That’s it….  that’s where I am now.  My 30 days ends on February 14th.   I KNOW RIGHT!!!  Valentines Day.  I don’t know how I feel about that yet, we’ll see.

All in all, I’m still feeling pretty good about it.

Take care,

Yes, I love my lipstick and chapstick!     These are just the ones I have right now in my purse.     I can’t stand dry lips!!!!    I feel like I can’t talk without my lipstick on.    And,  I’m sure sometimes the Zman wishes he could hide them all from me for that very reason.   Which is exactly why I keep them stashed around the house, car, and my purse.

And, I’ll also share with you that I love big hair.  Yep, I love big hair and I can not lie….  (got you singing again didn’t I) 🙂

Lipstick and big hair.    Yep, those are two of my favorite things.

What?        C’mon ladies, we should NOT blend in with the woodwork!     We are BEAUTIFUL!!!

So, pull out your lipstick and hairspray and rock the big hair and hot lips this weekend!      Be proud of it.      Be confident.      Be BEAUTIFUL!!!

I hope you have a Fun Friday and a lovely weekend!

P.S.  You know what this means, right?  Another one of my favorite things…
